After finding a pin for DIY american flag shorts, I decided to send it to my craft twin and we finally got around to making them last night!
This is how they came out! I'm in love. If you want to know how to make them, just click the link above.
HELPFUL HINTS:
- I altered mine a little bit because the shorts I had were a bit too dark. We ran to the grocery store and got a small quart of bleach and poured it in a 1/4 full bathtub of water with our shorts and let them soak for about an hour and a half.
- When you put the star stickers down, make sure they are pressed firmly onto the jean otherwise the paint will seep underneath and they'll look blobby (like mine do, but hey... it adds character!)
- If you don't use spray paint, fabric paint is fine! Sponge it on for cool texture.
- Start the stripes with one piece of tape down the middle and work outwards
- PAINTERS/DUCT TAPE is your FRIEND! Use tape to mask anything that you don't want any color on (the pockets on mine, for example)
- Peel carefully and be wary of paint that is on the actual tape
- We didn't rinse ours after the bleach, so if you do this as well, wash them with a few towels (just in case) and INSIDE OUT! This will probably prevent the paint from coming off.
WHAT WE USED:
+ a pair of old shorts or jeans from Goodwill cut into shorts (or jeans from Goodwill!)
Good luck! And if you make a pair, post them in the comments so I can see :)
